What Is Chalk Paste?

It’s a thick paste about the consistency of yogurt or sour cream which makes it great for adhesive reusable stencils. It dries within minutes reducing the risk of smudging or smearing your craft projects. It’s specially formulated to provide a smooth and consistent application. That’s how you get out nice crisp lines designs using our reusable stencils. It’s like chalk paint as it’s easy to clean up and can be easily removed but it dries hard like acrylic paint.

Does Chalk Couture Chalk Paste Come Off?

Chalk Paste was made to be removable when wet and stay on when dry. That’s the magic of Chalk Couture. Chalk Couture started as a chalkboard art company and has since grown to other DIY Home Crafts. The chalkboard art was intended to be changed out each month/season by simply wetting down the chalk paste and removing it but dry hard so the kids couldn’t mess up the design by touching it. Chalkology Paste is a water-soluble crafting paste that goes on wet, dries hard, and washes off of nonporous surfaces with water, if used on natural wood that is not painted, there may be a residue that cannot be removed.

What’s The Difference Between Chalk Paint And Chalk Couture Paste?

The main difference is consistency. Chalk Paint has the consistency of sour cream which is the consistency needed to get the nice crisp lines using our reusable stencils. Chalk Paint consistency is thinner and would bleed under the stencils messing up your design. They both are easy to clean up and are non-toxic.

How Many Sizes Does The Chalk Paste Come In?

There are 3 options: Jars, Packets (in the same color), and Packets (coordinating colors).

Do You Need To Seal Chalk Paste?

Chalk Paste is meant to be removed and the surface reused over and over again. That’s the beauty of Chalk Couture and how it saves you money and space when switching out season decorations. No more closets full of decorations you’re not using. However, some people do want the Chalk Paste to be permeant when they’re gift-giving or making outdoor decor items. In that case, I would recommend a simple Spray Sealant.

Is Chalk Couture Paste Permanent On Wood?

No, the Chalk Couture paste is not permanent on wood. You will need to seal the chalk paste on wood. I recommend a simple Spray Sealant to make the design permanent on wood. You can seal it once the chalk paste is dry.

Can You Seal Chalk Couture Paste?

How Do You Prepare Wood For Chalk Couture Paste?

Is Chalk Couture Paste Toxic?

What If My Chalk Couture Paste Becomes Dry In The Jar?

Our Chalk Paste contains a humectant, which helps to keep your paste from completely drying out. If your paste becomes dry, you can add a small amount of distilled water and mix it well. Add a few drops until you reach the correct consistency (like sour cream). If you still need a little help after you add the water, put it in the microwave for 15-sec intervals to help it smooth back out.

What Surfaces Is Chalk Paste safe on?

Chalkology™ Paste is safe to use and remove from most non-porous surfaces, such as chalkboards, wood, glass, paper, mirror, kitchenware, and metal. The paste can also be used on porous surfaces such as unfinished wood or paper, but only as a permanent design. We recommend testing an inconspicuous spot prior to applying Chalkology™ Paste to any surface. Paste colors can interact with certain surfaces and finishes and cause color staining, or “color echo,” after a design is removed.

How To Use Chalk Paste?

Chalk paste is used instead of paint to apply a Chalk Couture stencil design (ie Chalk Couture transfer design). Will Any Of The Colors Stain My Surfaces?

I recommend testing any surface before you apply the paste. Darker paste colors have higher amounts of pigment (ie. black and red), and are more likely to stain porous surfaces. Chalk Couture Board Erasers, disinfecting wipes, and soap with water help remove the paste; however, a “color echo” may remain. A “color echo” may be more pronounced the longer it has been on a surface or exposed to light. If you do get a “color echo” try using a board eraser to remove the echo.

We’re consistently producing new and fun colors and organizing colors into palettes. Some are seasonal and offered for a limited time; others are foundational colors intended to be in stock for longer.
