The wax is intended to protect the silk screen transfers/craft stencils and adherence to Chalkology™ Paste to surfaces. I understand this is a big investment for you and want to make sure you’ll be able to reuse the product as many times as possible. I’m normally able to use my transfers for longer because I do take extra care of them. Not always but for the majority of them. Chalk Couture’s policy is the silk screen transfer/craft stencils can be used up to a dozen times. If you take care of them you may be able to squeeze in a few more uses. Wax is one way to help protect them from being damaged.
Do I need to wax a Chalk Couture chalkboard?
No, they do not need to be waxed.
I highly recommend a beginner start with a Chalk Couture Chalkboard. They come ready to create on and can be reused hundreds of times. Which is great until you get used to using the adhesive stencils that we call silk screen transfers.
When should you use the Surface Wax?
I use the Chalk Couture wax on surfaces that are NON-Chalk Couture surfaces, painted, stained, raw wood, metal, or follow recommendations with Chalk Couture surfaces. In general, I apply wax on any surface that is painted, stained raw wood, metal, and some Chalk Couture surfaces.
Should You Apply Surface Wax to Chalk Couture Surfaces?
The Chalk Couture surfaces will have a sticker on them if they need to be waxed.
TEST IT!! – If you are unsure if your surface needs wax, test an inconspicuous area first by applying a small amount of paste. If the paste flakes off when dry, you will need to apply a wax layer first.
How To Use Chalk Couture Surface Wax?
Take a lint-free clean rag or wax applicator and dip it into the jar of surface wax and apply a small amount of wax to the applicator. Now rub the applicator over your entire project. At first, it will feel sticky so just keep rubbing it until it’s no longer sticky. After the wax is applied, wait a few minutes before applying the silk screen transfer / stencil.
What are other ways to protect my silk screen transfers?
The second way to protect them is to fuzz them with a t-shirt or Chalk Couture fuzzing cloth before applying the silk screen transfer / stencil to a waxed, painted, stained, raw wood, glass, chalkboard or metal surface. Adding fuzz to the back of the transfer keeps it from sticking really bad when removed. This prevents the transfer which is a fabric material from stretching and ruining the design.
The third way is to wash them with water after use.
