Materials Needed:

Step 1: Choosing your Chalk Couture Design

The first step in creating a chalk couture pillow is choosing your design. Chalk Couture has a wide range of transfers / stencil to choose from, and you can also create your own custom design by mixing and matching designs. Once you have selected your design, you will need to cut it to size.

Step 2: Preparing the Pillow

Choose your pillow and insert an inking mat inside the pillow to prevent the paste from bleeding through to the other side.

Step 3: Applying the Transfer

Place your transfer onto the pillow cover exactly where you want the design. Use the chalk couture squeegee to apply the chalkology ink over the transfer. Make sure to apply the paste evenly and cover the entire design.

Step 4: Removing the Transfer

Once you have applied the ink, carefully remove the Chalk Couture transfer / stencil from the pillow cover. The transfer can be reused, so make sure to clean it off and store it properly for future use. Make sure your hands are clean before touching the pillowcase.

Step 5: Letting it Dry

Allow the Chalk Couture ink to dry for at least 24 hours before removing the ink mat from inside the pillow cover and heat setting the design.

Step 6: Heat Setting the Design

After the ink has dried for 24 hours, use one of the two options to heat set the design.

There are two options to heat set the Chalk Couture ink on the pillow.

  • Option 1:  Use a handheld clothing iron and parchment paper to make the design permanent. Place the parchment paper over the design and iron over the parchment paper for four minutes. Make sure to move the iron so it doesn’t burn the fabric. Repeat the steps on the back.
  • Option 2: Use the Cricut heat press and parchment paper. Set the heat press to 305 degrees, place the parchment paper over the design, and place the heat press on the parchment paper over the design for 30 sec. Repeat the steps for the back.

Remove the parchment paper and allow the pillow to cool completely.

Now, the design is permanently on the pillow and can be washed according to garment care.

Step 7: Displaying Your Chalk Couture Pillow

Your chalk couture pillow is now complete and ready to be displayed in your home. These pillows make great accents for any room in your home and can be customized to match your decor.
